Job Description
The Comox Valley Children’s Day Care Society is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to fill the position of Executive Director. This is an excluded position (i.e., nonunionized), working with both unionized and non-unionized staff. As the Executive Director, you will play a critical role in ensuring the provision of quality, inclusive child care and preschool services. You will be responsible for overseeing, developing, and managing the procedures required to carry out the policies, goals, and objectives set by the Board of Directors of the CVCDCS. An equally important role will be that of Pedagogical Lead, supporting and sustaining holistic, child-led programming, in collaboration with center educators.

 

The Comox Valley Children’s Day Care Society (CVCDCS)
The CVCDCS has been providing quality child care in the Comox Valley for over 50 years. Incorporated as a non-profit society in 1970, our volunteer Board of Directors operates within a governance model which supports policy development and strategic direction for the Society.Operating out of three buildings in Courtenay and Comox, we offer multiple programs for children ages 11 months to five years old. Our mission is to deliver high-quality, accessible early care and learning programs that reflect the desires and capabilities of the children, families, educators, and community. Guided by the principles of the BC Early Learning Framework and the Early Childhood Educators of BC Code of Ethics, we are dedicated to positively impacting the children and families of the Comox Valley.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Child development and care:

  • Support the development of children’s programs
  • Create inclusive, child-centered environments
  • Understand and participate in the Child Development Association
  • Provide mentorship to ECE team members
  • Direct interaction with, and supervision and support of young children

Human resources:

  • Recruit and manage staff
  • Organize professional development initiatives
  • Manage labor relations, including the BCGEU Collective Agreement
  • Coordinate with external human resources

 

Financial:

  • Support creation of, and adherence to, the budget
  • Proficient understanding of revenue and expenditures
  • Search and apply for relevant grants
  • Organize and support fundraising efforts
  • Understand and participate in government initiatives related to child care programs

Facilities:

  • Possess proficient knowledge of Community Care Facilities Licensing Regulations
  • Support safe and healthy learning and working environments
  • Ensure facilities are maintained in good, safe, working condition

Family and community relations:

  • Create and support a family-centered environment
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with the community; provincial and federal organizations

Governance:

  • Participate in organizational policy development
  • Contribute to planning for the Society, including strategic planning and growth management
  • Reporting to, and collaborating with the Board of Directors; participating in monthly meetings and regular performance evaluations

 

Qualifications

  • Valid ECE Diploma Level Certificate
  • BC Early Learning Framework training
  • ECEBC Code of Ethics training
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
  • Clear Canadian Criminal Record Check
  • 5+ years of experience working in inclusive child care settings with children,
    families, and professionals

Preferred skills/experience

  • Writing grants
  • Administration and management of non-profit organizations, including multiple staff and programs.

Position Start Date: Flexible, anticipated for Fall 2023.

Employment type: Full time (40 hours per week), permanent, with probationary period of six months

Salary and Benefits:
Salary: Range $60,000 to $90,000, based on experience and qualifications.
